Gujarat: Regulation of private security agencies goes online

In a step forward, Gujarat Police has created an online portal under the Private Security Agencies Regulation Act (PSARA), 2005, through which licences for private security agencies will be allotted and renewed.
The Act regulates the private security industry in India, through controlling authorities appointed by the state government.
According to senior police sources, there are about 4,600 private security agencies in Gujarat with more than 1 lakh personnel, which is higher than the number of police personnel in Gujarat.

Inspector general of police, law and order, Narsimha Komar, has been appointed the controlling authority and nodal officer for the web portal. The portal also has versions in Gujarati and other languages.

“These private agencies play a major role in providing security to industrial houses, factories, private companies and the process to give them licences needs to be made quicker,” said Komar.
HOW TO APPLY : A form has to be filled on the PSARA portal for new security agencies and renewal of licences of old ones. Photos of the identity cards of guards have to be attached and a form for verification has to be filled in
MANUAL PROCESS WAS LONG

: Police sources said earlier, those wanting to open a security agency had to submit written applications and then the verification of the owner and their employees was done manually and this took a lot of time. Now, the process will be done online and checking of antecedents and verification will done through E-Guj Cop, which has all criminal data and verification can be done at one’s fingertips
VIDEO CONFERENCE WITH MHA ON MONDAY: A meeting between top officials of the ministry of home affairs (MHA) and senior police officials and the state home department was held through video conferencing, where the decision to make this process faster was taken
PSARA LICENCE MANDATORY :
Officials said the PSARA licence will be mandatory for private security agencies and strict action will be taken against those who run private security agencies without a PSARA licence
